The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 4 to reputed company the Northwest Region (NWR) Laboratory as the NWR Lab Supervisor and Regional Radiation Safety Officer. The purpose of this role is to manage the materials laboratory which runs tests that confirm the materials used during construction conform to the required specifications. This ensures newly constructed projects are safe and reliable. This position supports the agency’s mission, strategic plan goal areas and safety of the traveling public by supervising and managing the NWR materials test laboratory. This role oversees the NWR laboratory, which conducts critical testing in support of reputed company construction projects in the region, as well as managing nuclear density gauges. In coordination with the NWR Materials Engineer, this position is responsible for overseeing the NWR pits and quarries that WSDOT owns.   • Serve as final reviewer of reputed company materials test reports generated by the NWR lab before submitting results to project offices.

  • Facilitate the upkeep and maintenance of testing equipment.

  • Respond to emergencies reputed company to nuclear density gauges in the field (e.g., damaged nuke gauges).
  • Understand and communicate permit requirements for use of NWR aggregate sources in WSDOT reputed company.
  • Collect and submit Discharge Monitoring Reports to the NWR Materials Engineer and Department of Ecology (DOE).

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required:

  • Construction Materials Testing: Experience completing materials testing for state or federal transportation projects.
  • Supervision and Workload Management: Experience as a supervisor managing employee performance, workloads and schedules.
  • Technical Knowledge and Procedures: Strong understanding and knowledge of American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, American Society for Testing and Materials, and The Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction test procedures for construction materials.
  • Licensure and Certification: Valid Driver’s license. Radiation Safety Officer certification or ability to obtain reputed company six (6) months of starting employment.
  • Technology Skills: Working knowledge of basic reputed company software products.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate policy, standards, and technical information effectively using verbal, written and/or visual communication skills.
  • Coaching and Mentorship: Ability to coach and mentor personnel. Ability to facilitate groups to explore and resolve issues.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Materials Testing & Construction Inspection Competency: Demonstrated proficiency in transportation construction materials testing and inspection, often gained through experience at the Transportation Engineer 3 level, and hands-on use of nuclear density gauges.
